How to conect PM2.5 sensor from SM300D2 directly via UART

A very famous cheap air quality control home device SM300D2 is quite popular. It could be bought with screen or without. But what if you have damage your device? The PM2.5 is a separate creature on it, and you could use it easily separately. A power supply could be easily taken from a USB-UART convertor with 5V power outcome, it needs at maximum 100 mA of output current and more or the less stable voltage (what mostly they have). We need to connect only GND, UART TX and VCC lines of the sensor to our UART to USB connector and use like you want, below will be a link to a home-brewed program to display PM2.5 concentrations on Windows PC.

The local household heating sector continued to contribute significantly to air pollution in 2017, namely emissions of PM10 59,1%, PM2.5 74,3% (Figure 7), carbon monoxide 67,8%, VOC 47,7%, arsenic 34,4%, cadmium 51,1% and benzo[a]pyrene 98,3%. Emissions of sulphur dioxide (51.7 %) and nickel (37.5%) dominated the decisive share of the public energy sector and heat production. The sectors of road freight transport, passenger car transport, non-road vehicles and other machinery e.g. agriculture and forestry account for the most significant share of nitrogen oxide emissions (42.8 %).
Sektor lokálního vytápění domácností se v roce 2017 i nadále významně podílel na znečišťování ovzduší, konkrétně na emisích PM10 59,1 %, PM2,5 74,3 % (obr. 7), oxidu uhelnatého 67,8 %, VOC 47,7 %, arsenu 34,4 %, kadmia 51,1 % a benzo[a]pyrenu 98,3 %. Rozhodující podíl sektoru veřejné energetiky a výroby tepla převládal u emisí oxidu siřičitého (51,7 %) a niklu (37,5 %). Sektory silniční nákladní dopravy, osobní automobilové dopravy, nesilničních vozidel a ostatních strojů např. v zemědělství a lesnictví se podílejí nejvýznamněji na emisích oxidů dusíku (42,8 %).

Pollutants: Benz(a)pyrenes

Benz(a)pyrenes are aromatic polycyclic hydrocarbons. In the pictures in school chemistry textbooks they are depicted as a group of benzene rings linked together. The compounds belong to substances of the 1st hazard class, since they are carcinogens and provoke the development of cancer.
Sources of the formation of benz (a) pyrene:
-
industries associated with the combustion process, smoldering urban landfills;
-
car exhausts;
-
tobacco smoke
The substance is also formed during the frying and smoking of products.
To determine the concentration of the substance in the laboratory, an analysis of the air for the presence of this carcinogen is carried out, food products are examined. If indicators of a toxic substance exceed the maximum permissible concentrations, measures are being developed to improve working conditions and reduce atmospheric emissions.
Benzene (a) pyrene accumulates in the human body, so getting it even in small doses is dangerous to health. Under the influence of a carcinogen, cells begin to abnormally divide, causing cancerous tumors. Other manifestations of negative effects on the human body:
-
the development of vascular atherosclerosis;
-
liver damage
-
strokes and heart attacks.
The degree of danger of poisoning by a substance does not depend on how it got into the body. Non-smoking people, adherents of a healthy lifestyle are not excluded from the risk zone, as they can breathe air with exhaust fumes.
The fact of bioaccumulation of benz (a) pyrene is proved. The substance has the ability to integrate into DNA strands, cause gene mutations that can manifest itself after several generations.
There are no methods to cleanse the body of this toxic substance. But you can avoid its harmful effects:
quit smoking;
limit the consumption of smoked and fried foods, canned foods;
be interested in the concentration of the substance in the air of the working area, near the place of residence.
